Bespoke GRP linings
GRP linings are strong, flexible and provide a smooth and seamless appearance. They’re also resistant to impact, corrosion, and chemicals, and can create waterproof surfaces. They’re used for a variety of commercial purposes, from tanking to weatherproofing roofs.
Here at Jones Weatherproofing, our highly skilled team has extensive experience designing and installing GRP linings. We are also approved installers of cold-applied liquid roofs. We’ve worked with a variety of clients to successfully install GRP linings in commercial projects across the UK and Ireland, as well as further afield.
What are GRP linings?
Also known as glass-reinforced plastic, GRP combines the strength of glass with the durability and flexibility of plastic.
A GRP lining is made by first creating a matt of chopped glass strands and then coating it with a polymer. The result is a sheet of GRP lining measuring 2-3mm in thickness (including reinforced matting) which is flexible, lightweight, durable, and waterproof.
What is the purpose of a fibreglass lining?
GRP linings are often used to provide waterproofing in both new-build and refurbishment projects. They are ideal for covering surfaces such as metals, concrete, brick, wood, and existing fibreglass.
Not only is the material itself waterproof, but cold-applied GRP sealants can also be used to fill in seams and gaps, creating a seamless, smooth appearance that doesn’t allow liquids through. This makes it an excellent choice for applications such as:
- Flat roof weatherproofing
- Waterproofing walls, floors and basements
- Industrial tanking and water tanks
- Chemical and fuel bunds
- Covering pipelines
- Drainage channels and gullies
What are the benefits of fibreglass linings?
Widely used as a lining material, GRP is favoured due to its durability, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. Other benefits include:
- Lightweight: The light weight of GRP linings can simplify transport and installation. It also means that the lining should not excessively increase the weight of a structure.
- Minimal maintenance: Fibreglass linings require very little maintenance. An occasional clean is usually all that’s necessary.
- Easy to repair: Although damage and wear are uncommon, if a GRP lining does require repairs, the process is usually simple and quick.
- Corrosion resistant: Being made of durable materials, fibreglass linings are resistant to corrosion and can also be resistant to UV degradation.
- Chemical resistant: GRP linings are resistant to many chemicals, and manufacturers can work with clients to ensure the selected product provides the required performance.
- Impact resistant: GRP provides a high level of impact resistance. By tailoring the ratio of glass to plastic, manufacturers can tailor the strength and flexibility of the product to specific requirements.
- Long lifespan: Our fibreglass linings are installed with a 25-year warranty, and it’s likely they will last much longer.
- Design versatility: GRP can be pigmented to match almost any colour preference. It can be provided with glossy or matt finishes and can incorporate a non-slip finish if required.
